Open Call: Artist Educators
We are inviting expressions of interest for an artist or collective to deliver a project in one or two Hackney secondary schools. This project will be co-created by the successful applicants and the school(s) we recruit. The project should address the 2023 Black History Month theme of Celebrating our Sisters/ Saluting our Sisters/ Matriarchs of Movements, and highlight the crucial role that Black women have played in shaping history, inspiring change, and building communities.
The successful artists/designers will:
- Be a practising artist/collective
- Plan and deliver in-school workshops that develop young people’s creative skills and allow them to explore the chosen themes
- Facilitate the creation of outcomes that will form an exhibition
- Manage the materials budget
- Be present for install of the exhibition
- Be from the Black community and/or have in-depth experience of working with Black History
Considerations:
- We are open to artform, this can be dictated by your practice
- The artworks should be suitable to be installed in the large foyer of a law firm client, then given back to the School(s)
- The number of workshops to be decided through discussions between the Artist and School
- The year group(s) and number of pupils will be decided through discussions between the Artist and School (likely Yr 9, 10 or 12)
Timescale:
The project workshop delivery will take place in Summer and Autumn Term 2023
- Planning meeting – end of May / early June
- Session delivery – June/July
- Artwork fabrication/ finalisation/design time /edits – August
- Install – September 2023(with technician support if needed
Fees:
- Planning meeting: £53.30
- Artist days (delivery / non-contact): £191.90 a day – amount of days TBC approx. 10-12
- Materials: TBC Artist to suggest
How to apply:
The Expression of Interest should consist of a short CV / biography clearly demonstrating prior and relevant experience, and up to 6 examples of relevant previous works. Format must be digital (please check access permissions if sending a link to a drive). Please also include a few sentences explaining your suitability and how you would approach the project – no more than 150 words.
