Somewhere over the rainbow...

After the excitement of the  SE1 Open studios over the past two weekends we were tired, but satisfied in Property team this week and so thankful for all of the hard work put in by our artists!

The Friday night was a celebration of the past 5 years of collaboration between CRISIS the homeless charity and Bow Arts at the Bermondsey project space. It was true testament to all that has been achieved at the site over the past few years with an eclectic mix of Fashion Designers, painters, photographers, textile designers and installation artists opening up their studios to the public.

Stand-out pieces included Kitty Jospeh’s bold fashion pieces inspired by the windows of the building, Lauren Mele’s captivating paintings of everyday life and Judith Haye’s mesmerising liquid projection piece. Round every corner there was something new to draw you into each studio and you could not fail to be impressed by the sheer variety of work on display.

SE1 artist Hannah Campion took her work slightly further afield, creating a vibrant installation in the courtyard of the Bow Road studios for the Open House weekend. Battling with the weather (which included hail stones the size of golf balls) she created an exciting rainbow welcome display for those visiting the site last weekend, as well as the cheeriest new look to the courtyard for those arriving at work on Monday morning.

Needless to say, it was only a matter of time before inspiration from Hannah’s technicolour creation spread and Alice from Property team’s knitwear choices this week certainly had something familiar about them....
