This year we've expanded our Creative PPA cover provision and are now working with three new Primary schools to provide regular artist-led workshops to cover teachers during essential planning time. This is a great opportunity for students to explore curricular topics creatively, learning new art skills and creating small and large-scale artwork for display in school.

Artist Poppy Green is currently working with Calverton Primary School in Newham for three afternoons per week with Years 4, 5 and 6. In the first half of term, Year 4 (above) looked at Romans and Roman Artwork, in particular focusing on portraiture and relief sculpture; they created their own self portraits using mirrors, before building these up into sculptures using modroc. Year 5 focused on Bonfire Art, studying a range of artists including Turner, Pollock and Richter to create abstract paintings representing fire. The Year 6 topic was Victorians, and children learn about Victorian life through their art, looking at artists such as WIlliam Hogarth and the Pre-Raphaelites and working with printing, photography and drawing.

At Wellington Primary in Bow (above), artists Poppy Green and Emma Corinne are working with Years 3, 4 and 6 with a focus on observational and experimental drawing, linking in to class topics including Vikings and the Victorians.

Emma is also working at Star Primary this term, covering one morning and one afternoon per week and working with Year 1 and 2. The children are focusing on new approaches to drawing and mark making, with links to Year 1's topic of Homes and Habitats and Year 2's topic The Great Fire of London.

We're also working with Park Primary in Stratford (below) for the third year in a row, delivering art lessons to every child in the school with artist Helen Watson working with Years 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 and Carl Stevenson working with Reception and Year 4.

We're really excited to be working with these schools on long-term projects where children can really develop their skills and learning over time. If you'd like to find out more about our offer then take a look at out Creative PPA/Supply Cover package or contact us.
