Rum Factory Open Studios 2016

Saturday, May 14, 2016
Opening Hours:
2pm - 8pm
Rum Factory, Bow Arts, Unit 4 Pennington Street Warehouse, Pennington Street, E1W 2BD

Open since June 2015, Rum Factory studios are the creative home to 90 artists, designers and makers. Formally known as ‘Fortress Wapping’ – ex-home to News International, the studios are situated in an amazing Grade II listed rum warehouse, just a stones throw from St Katharine's Dock, Wapping.

There will be a number of pop-up bars serving refreshments. All of our open studios events are free entry, with no RSVP needed. Just turn up & we'll see you there!

At PSW- Project Space Wapping we have 'Biscuit', a group show by artists Rhys Thomas, Lucia Quevedo, Aimee Sawicki, Matilda Moors and Jennifer Campbell.

''Banal, domestic, crumby, cakey, creamy, patterned, comforting, British, wet, unpopular, round, textured, substantial, dusty, tooth-coating, likeable, physical, good, cheap, dense, polite and often left on the hospitable plate un-eaten. Biscuits are like a symbol on the one hand and on the other hand, a fleshy thing that crumbles.

The idea of Biscuit means something slightly different to each artist and yet, like a variety pack of McVities, there is a mutual base to each of our associations, with the common BISCUIT.''

PV 6PM - 8PM Friday 13th May
Open 2pm-8pm for the Open Studios event

Mechanical Ensemble Workshop with Stephen Guy

"Part workshop, part performance and part kinetic exhibit, visitors make a cam driven kinetic machine from premade components and a box of junk. These are linked together to create a single machine, an impressive snaking line of spinning cams, colours and shapes turned by a motor. A new version of the machine has been commissioned by China's Guangdong Science Centre"

This is a drop in workshop running all day in Stephen's studio. Find him in Studio 78
