Dwellings: A work-in-progress photography exhibition by Amanda Eatwell
Saturday 25th October 2025 – Sunday 26th October 2025 , 12:00pm to 5:00pm
Amanda would like to open up a conversation about housing and the use, misuse, and non-use of properties in England. She has been creating images in her own neighbourhood to illustrate how things can look when an area is transitioning through a massive redevelopment phase. There are similar stories to be told all around the UK.

Private view | Friday 17th October
Open | Saturdays & Sundays 18, 19, 25, 26th October, 12-6pm
The images in this exhibition were all taken around Lesnes Estate, southeast London, where Amanda lives. Six tower blocks and multiple houses are set for demolition. This is part of a much broader redevelopment scheme, and she is in a unique position as a resident to bear witness as the estate slowly degrades through the passage of time.
Each scene is an invitation to ponder the lives of those who lived here before, and consider those that live here now, as well as to remind the visitors of bigger questions like ‘Why choose demolition? When is retrofitting viable? Why are so many properties empty when we are living in a housing crisis? Who is making the decisions in our cities, and who benefits?’
The project is ongoing, and will be broadened to other areas. Amanda would like to engage with a wide variety of voices, as the subject of housing, and having a place to call home affects us all. The exhibition will include collected materials gathered from across Thamesmead, and a new installation of materials from the built environment. Visitors will be invited to leave behind their reflections & experiences of housing in the UK.
More about Amanda Eatwell:
Amanda is a documentary and fine art photographer whose work explores human connection, societal shifts, and the subtle narratives within everyday life. With a deeply observational approach, she captures the essence of what it means to be human – whether through direct portraiture or the environments that people shape.
Amanda works on long-form projects, and as well as Dwellings she is currently working on All Things Considered, a photographic project that began in 2019. At the time, she had no idea that a global pandemic was about to reshape our lives, nor could she have predicted the many societal shifts that would follow over the next five years. Through subtle yet intentional framing, her images hint at the struggles, tensions, and transformations that define contemporary life. Shot in a square format, the photographs invite the viewer to pause, engage, and consider their own place within these broader narratives.
Her work has been exhibited widely across the UK and internationally, with notable features in Portrait of Britain and other publications. Alongside her personal projects, Amanda takes on commissioned work, primarily collaborating with charities and third- sector organisations. Much of this work involves documenting the lives of vulnerable communities. As she continues to explore new ways of sharing her work, Amanda remains committed to photography as both a form of storytelling and a way of making sense of the world.
