To celebrate Bow Arts’ 24th year, Robyn Litchfield’s transcendent painting ‘Arnold River’ has been added to the Nunnery Gallery’s 20 Prints for 20 Years collection which launched in 2015 for Bow Arts’ 20th anniversary. 20 Prints for 20 Years is a limited edition series of prints from our studio and education artists, celebrating artwork made within Bow Arts’ walls across our 20-year history.
Each print tells a different artist's story, revealing the talent and diversity of the artists Bow Arts supports, from long-standing fine artists to emerging makers and designers. Though it began with 20, the series evolves with Bow Arts' growing network of artists, with a new print added to the selection each year.
Currently exhibited in the Nunnery Gallery as part of the 2019 Bow Open Show, Robyn Litchfield’s ‘Arnold River’ explores her personal history, notions of cultural identity and alienation. These themes creep across her canvases as deeply intense colours, seeping into the nostalgic landscapes.
Litchfield’s paintings are representations of sublime encounters with places; pristine and untouched. Drawing from archival material and personal documents relating to the early exploration and colonisation of New Zealand, she aims to reimagine and examine the experience of forays into a hitherto unknown space. Interested in the idea of wilderness and the unknown, she uses expressive brushstrokes to portray the fluidity of the forest, creating depth through processes such as scraping, layering and erasure to reveal the luminous ground beneath.
All under £100, each signed print is a chance to own an affordable and limited edition artwork from Bow Arts, as well as support the charity's next 20 years, with all proceeds going towards cultural and educational projects in the local area.
This Christmas, to celebrate the addition of Litchfield’s painting to our 20 Prints for 20 Years series, we will be holding a month-long raffle in the Nunnery Gallery from 12 Nov to 15 Dec. Simply pop in to the gallery, have a look around this year’s politically poignant Bow Open Show, maybe grab a hot drink or a delicious soup from the Nunnery Café, and leave your details with us for a chance to win!
