Today’s #SustainabilityWeek challenge sent us litter picking in our surrounding areas. We covered Bow Arts Lane and Grove Park. In a very short time we collected several bags of litter and re-familarised ourselves with what can be recylced, with the most interesting find being a sock!

One thing we noticed during the litter pick was how much of the discarded items were made from plastic. Did you know that every piece of plastic ever made is still around? Even recycled plastic has a limited life span, as the quality decreases over time, and it will eventually disintegrate and pollute our oceans.
There are some really simple ways to use less plastic!
- Bring your own bag with you when you go shopping.
- Try a farmers market rather than the supermarket, where fruit and veg is often needlessly wrapped in plastic.
- Buy a reusable coffee cup. Many coffee outlets will even give you a bit of money off when you bring your own cup!
- Say “no straw please”
- Talk about it! Challenge your friends to use less plastic too.
