Site-specific sculptures at Langdon Park

Submitted by Education on Thu, 13/11/2014 - 16:50

As part of the Bow Arts Poplar Partnership, we're working with Langdon Park Secondary School in Poplar to design and make permanent artworks for the school site with two groups of Year 9 students.

Artists Jaimini Patel and Reza Ben Gajra are working with two core groups of 12 students over the term; the students will all be working towards gaining Bronze Arts Award qualifications and the project is also designed to encourage more students to take Art as a GCSE option.

Jaimini is working with her group to create a site-specific hanging installation for the school's canteen space that responds to and compliments the architectural features of the building, inspired by the work of artists shown in the Royal Academy's Radical Geometry Exhibition. Reza is working with his group on a sculptural piece made from aluminium wire, which is inspired by the work of artist Beatrix Millhaze and will hang in a stairwell.

Reza and some of the students who participated in the project will attend a Celebration Day at Spotlight youth space in March next year to celebrate all the projects delivered within the consortium of ten schools in the Poplar Partnership. They will create a mini exhibition of some of their work and deliver a workshop/skills sharing element on the day.

We're really excited to see how these sculptures turn out! For more info about working with us on permanent artworks, check out our package here, or contact us.
