Top tip for the classroom - drawing

Each term we'll be sharing top tips for the classroom from our experienced Artist Educators. Poppy Green is currently working with us to provide PPA cover for Calverton Primary in Newham and Wellington Primary in Poplar. Here she shares a drawing activity to encourage reluctant drawers to make their mark!

A great activity for the reluctant or less able drawers is to ask them to draw with rope on the floor. It's very much an observational drawing activity. I run it alongside normal desk-based drawing activities. It's especially good for children who struggle with their fine motor skills as they can work on a large scale and modify as they go along. Also students move around as they make it, so it's good for the restless ones. I also regularly run it as a collaborative activity.
