Explore Doreen Fletcher’s East End: Walking Tour

Date:
Saturday, March 16, 2019
Address:
The Nunnery, 181 Bow Road, London E3 2SJ
Time:
11am

Join Spitalfields Life researcher Vicky Stewart to walk the streets of Doreen’s paintings, exploring the buildings that remain and the sites of those that have long disappeared.

For the first time, Bow Arts presents a retrospective of painter Doreen Fletcher’s work, curated by The Gentle Author. For twenty years Doreen painted the streets of east London until, discouraged by lack of recognition, she gave up in 2004. Only a chance meeting with The Gentle Author of Spitalfields Life brought her painting to public attention in 2015.

Vicky Stewart will be leading visitors on a walk to explore the streets and sites behind the paintings, a chance to discover and remember the sites of Doreen’s east London.

Vicky Stewart lives in Spitalfields and works occasionally as a researcher with Spitalfields Life, including tracing Horace Warner's Spitalfields Nippers and paintings for East End Vernacular and Doreen Fletcher, Paintings.

The walk will begin from the Nunnery Gallery at 11am.

Tickets £3/5 (concession rate applies to under 18s, students, over 65s and Bow Arts artists)
