On Saturday 1st July, the Artist and Design Collectives Evening Class and The People Speak will be opening up their studios for a Street Festival on Aberfeldy Street. These two collectives run permanent year-round public programmes including discussion round-tables, seminars, book launches, film screenings and more. The street festival is a celebration of their work so far and their individual projects in collaboration with locals in this fast-changing area of London. If you live locally to the area and would like to take part in a stall, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org as we would love you to be involved!
So far the events are as follows:
- a 'Swop Shop' where you can swop unwanted items for ones you do want
- Talkeoke run by The People Speak - 'an illuminated round table with a host sitting in the middle on a swivel chair. Participants sit around the outside and are passed the microphone whenever they want to talk, coming and going as they please. The conversation is a journey from one unexpected subject to another.' The People Speak will be inviting participants to engage in conversations about the local area, including suggestions of positive ideas and projects that include the local community.
- BBQ and live radio podcast following the event run by Liam Harney with The Big Local, which is an organisation working to 'enable residents to make their communities and their areas even better places in which to live.'
