Exploring Eco Friendly Design

Thursday, June 28, 2018
Opening Hours:
RAW Labs, London, E16 2QP

Exploring Eco Friendly Product Design:
Fungal material as an eco friendly alternative in the fashion, packaging and construction industries with Paige Perillat-Piratoine
Paige’s area of focus is growing urban fabric. By exploring projects in biomaterials, urban agriculture and circular design, she delves into experiments that have the potential to foster a new urban reality. She is currently a resident at Green Lab, where she is growing cordyceps militaris fungus on spent brewery grain to demonstrate the feasibility of an urban biocycle: turning organic waste into a London based micro-medicinal mushroom farm. In the past she has used mycellium to transform a café's food and packaging waste into alternative products with the aim of re-injecting income into the shop itself

Her talk will be focused on introducing mycelium as a new material by exploring its properties and the projects that are bringing it forward. You'll learn about it as a potential material in industries ranging from fashion to packaging and construction.

Making Art Through Experimentation with Natural Resources with Ross Belton

Ross Belton
Ross’s artistic practice is rooted in experimentation with natural processes and the idea of place. Sustainability and using local resources are key in trying to minimise his artistic footprint, whilst still engaging the viewer with works of undiscovered or transient beauty.

Found objects and discarded tools, recycled materials, vintage linens and sea salvage all lead Ross in different directions. Natural dyes, rusting metal and more recently homegrown plants feed into his slow unpredictable adventure in art, helping us to see things in a different way.

All welcome to attend the second event of a new series of monthly NSN Magazine events (talks + Q&A + networking) dedicated to exploring how creative businesses, innovative designers and artisans work for a new sustainable society. The event will take place at R.A.W Lab (London, UK). R.A.W. Lab is just a 5-minute walk from Gallions Reach DLR station.

NSN Magazine is a quarterly publication dedicated to exploring how environmental activism, crafts, design and business intersect in contemporary society. Each month, there'll be talks, Q&As and opportunities to network and promote your eco-friendly creative business onsite and online.

Events are FREE. We advise to book your free ticket online so we know how many people will be coming, but you can simply pop by if you cannot book in advance.

IMPORTANT: You need to book tickets ONLY if you're planning to attend the event ONSITE at RAW LABS in EAST LONDON. If you wish to participate online simply follow the links to our social media pages at the time of the event (6pm GMT time).
