P1 Studios is opening its doors in May for you to explore some of the exciting work being made in the heart of Bow.
This site is made up of 11 self-contained studios and has a unique model where the studio income directly funds art projects for the community and Bow Arts Education projects which get taken to local schools.
Since opening in 2009, the site has become home to a tight knit community of over 15 artists, designers and makers, who have gone to achieve brilliant success. Awon Golding is a Miliner who has been stocked in Fortnum & Mason and Suzannah, Dale Lewis is a painter who has presented work at Choi & Lager Gallery and Saatchi, and the artist Vivien Zhang was shortlisted for Saatchi New Sensations in 2014 whilst being awarded the Chadwell Award in the same year. Come along and see what they are up to now!
Alongside the Open Studios, we will also have artist and studio holder Jennifer Campbell presenting a series of work in the front space. Jennifer views her works as paintings that have a bodily friction. Their physicality excludes them from the purely pictorial landscape and exposes them to fragmenting forces and gravity. Each work tells a story about itself and represents a fleeting propositional portrait. Jennifer proposes these portraits as an antidote to modern image culture and its representation of the human.
The event is free to enter, the site is wheel chair accessible and there will be refreshments available – we look forward to seeing you there!
