Join Raw Materials: Textiles resident artist Freya Gabie to create a giant, architectural ‘danced’ weave.
Using the physical space of the Bow Arts Victorian industrial courtyard and the movement of participants, this drop-in workshop will create a woven sculptural installation that spans, intercepts and connects space. Gabie will create an architectural frame with jute – the golden fibre, which was used in factories along the River Lea to produce ropes, twines and post-bags – by attaching strands to the buildings that form Bow Arts’ courtyard. Participants will then have the chance to weave their own responses between this frame – dancing the weave – tying the jute using macramé, which Gabie will be teaching.
Forming a spectacular woven reaction to space, celebrating our local area’s industrial history, don’t miss this opportunity to participate in one of Gabie’s renowned sculptures. All participants are welcome, including families with children.
