Alexis Harding – ‘In Progress: Works from the Studio’

Friday 2nd August 2013 – Thursday 12th September 2013 , 10:00am to 5:00pm

As of August the Nunnery Gallery will be home to Alexis Harding’s exhibition In Progress. The exhibition In Progress offers the viewer a chance to experience something of what it’s like to be in Alexis Harding’s studio. Recent and older works will be juxtaposed with the new series of broken spot and text paintings that are being developed.

The embracing of these beginnings and ends runs parallel with Hardings obsessive research into the time based finish of a painting. After years spent disrupting and exploring the structure of painting, this show reveals Harding opening up a new, speedier, more liberated discourse within painting; one in which many different images are being used at the same time.

Alexis Harding has placed paintings in arrangements reminiscent of his studio walls. New works The Cut and Rainbow Void (2011-12) are hung opposite a wall of Tondo/Moon paintings (12/13) and using the final reflected wall space, new “broken Spot” and “Exit Text” (2013) are shown for the first time. Large vertical paintings are also brought back and shown in the tall vertical space of the Nunnery Corridor. Together they offer up multiple views of a series of works created over a varied period of the artist’s career.
