Almacantar End of Residency Exhibition

Wednesday 23rd July 2025 , 6:00pm to 9:00pm

As their Almacantar residencies at Bow Arts come to an end, artists Ross Head and Norberto Spina will be showcasing a selection of their work to celebrate their year at our Royal Albert Wharf studios.

As well as an opportunity to celebrate the artists’ year with Almacantar and Bow Arts, this exhibition will showcase the work they created during their time in the studios. Ross’s work explores desire, identity, and the boundaries of the self through richly textured paintings and drawings. Norberto presents a fragmented and emotionally charged visual language in both subject and process.

Please check back for more information on timings and an updates about the evening.

Ross Head

Ross Head was born in 1984 in Shropshire, England. He currently lives and works in London, UK. He received an MA from the Slade School of Fine Art in 2024 and was awarded the Zsuzsi Roboz Scholarship, Almacantar Studio Award, UCL East Provost Art Prize and the JM Finn Graduate Artist Award. He received the Travel Award for Artists from British School at Athens in 2022 and his work can be found in UCL East Public Art Collection, UK.

The performance and expression of desire is central to my artistic practice. My compositions are worlds for intimate moments to take place, offering space to reflect on the boundaries of self, desire and identity. Painting and drawing help shape these potential narratives – colour-filled space, delicate marks and thick textures – are all active participants in the stories being created. I avidly collect images and draw upon archival imagery. The archive becomes a site for imagination and in the process of painting, scenes become less specific to time and place and allude more toward alternative realities.

Norberto Spina

Norberto Spina (b.1995) is an Italian artist based in London, where in 2024 he graduated from the Royal Academy Schools. His work examines the layered complexity of contemporary urban experience, and in doing so brings together seemingly disparate personal, historical, and religious iconography to form an elusive visual puzzle.

In both subject matter and process, Spina presents us with a fragmented and charged visual lexicon, one in which the hierarchy of images is disrupted, with religious iconography given the same weighting as family photographs. His paintings reflect an experience of contemporary life that is chaotic and subjective, acknowledging the conscious and subconscious influence of the past as it reverberates in the present.
