Artist Educator CPD: Analogue Filmmaking in the Classroom with Niki Kohandel
Tuesday 7th July 2026 , 5:30pm to 8:00pm
In this workshop participants will investigate how to use cameraless analogue film techniques in the classroom and discuss how this tactile medium can be useful in settings with young people in an age of fast-paced digital technology.

In this taster workshop, Bow Arts will be opening our Artist Educator CPD programme to invite artist educators, artists working in education and people who are curious about art education to join our thought-provoking and inspiring sessions.
We’re inviting potential collaborators, colleagues, and members of the existing artist educator community to come together to meet one another, practice and learn new skills.
About the workshop
Participants will hear from artist Niki Kohandel about her experiences in the classroom and elsewhere working with 16mm film. They will also have a chance to watch a few films that she has selected.
They will then take part in drawing, scratching and collaging directly onto the film to create a short animation. The collective film will be projected twice at the end of the evening.
What is the Artist Educators’ CPD programme?
Organised by Bow Learning, the artist educators CPD program is a series of sessions offered to Bow Arts Educators as a form of skill sharing and network-building. Bow Arts artist educators are a freelance pool of educators who work on schools’ projects across London, mostly in east and south-east London. This programme of professional development has been running successfully for the past 10 years.
The programme consists of:
- Skills-share sessions, where artists share skills from their own practice with each other.
- The Happening Now programme, where artists facilitate sessions around what is happening nationally and globally in current affairs and how this may be affecting young people, their families and teachers.
- Training delivered by external providers such as art psychotherapists and organisations that can share insight about working with children who have experienced trauma.
- Bow Arts’ annual artist educators’ retreat – a two-day event of workshops, talks and hands on activities exploring the boundaries of art teaching in the classroom and beyond.
- We are delighted to be able to extend this workshop beyond our artists educator community welcoming anyone with an interest or curiosity of how a learning environment can complement your own practice.
This initial tater session is ‘pay what you can’ where we are suggesting a donation of around £7 – but it’s up to you.
This event will be held in our courtyard room at Bow Arts Trust, 183 Bow Road, London E3 2SJ.
