Bow families: exploring connections through making clay vessels with Madi Acharya-Baskerville

Sunday 31st August 2025 , 11:00am to 1:00pm

Come and join artist Madi Acharya-Baskerville as we connect through making clay vessels and bring your bold designs to life through pinching and molding. Open to children and families of all ages – all materials provided.

Taking inspiration from the Bow Open Show 2025, join artist Madi Acharya-Baskerville as we explore the theme of connections through clay. You will create your own unique vessels using air-dry clay from designing on paper to bringing them to life. Let us discover how form and function connect and take home your handmade vessel!

In this workshop, children will learn about the possibilities of making sculpture with clay, exploring different designs through sketching and trying out a range of pinching and moulding techniques!

This event is an inclusive, friendly environment which is accessible to all abilities and age groups.

Bow Families is a series of free, drop-in family art workshops that take place on the last Sunday of every month in the Bow Arts Courtyard Room. These sessions are a wonderful opportunity for local families to get creative and try something new! Each session is led by a Bow Arts’ Artist and all materials are provided.

More about Madi Acharya-Baskerville

Madi Acharya-Baskerville is an Asian born diaspora artist, living and working in the UK. Broadly speaking, the themes explored in her work range from environmental concerns, migration and exile and gender issues. What unites them is the found element, matter that already exists around us, an enduring reflection of the human condition. Her practice involves the synthesis of unlikely elements which she sources from different locations, the coastline, woodlands and vintage markets.

Using objects, textiles, song, conversation and magazine cuttings which resonate with her on some level, she creates works which move fluidly between different media. Some of the materials have had a past life such as wooden panels previously part of furniture or embroidered textiles which have seen better occasions. Through joyous transformative processes these objects and materials are reborn as part of something new.
