Bow families: painting on wood from our urban neighbourhood with Madi Acharya-Baskerville

Sunday 27th July 2025 , 11:00am to 1:00pm

Give new life to urban treasures! Come and join Madi Acharya-Baskerville as we transform locally-sourced wooden panel from our urban neighbourhood into vibrant works of art. Open to children and families of all ages – all materials provided.

Taking inspiration from our everyday life, join Madi Acharya-Baskerville as we discover hidden patterns in the urban landscape and explore the power of connections through painting. Using acrylic paints and drawing from images of patterns, you will create your own piece of art on wood.

In this family-friendly painting workshop, children will learn about the possibilities of painting on wood, exploring different colours and trying out a range of drawing techniques!

This event is an inclusive, friendly environment which is accessible to all abilities and age groups.

Bow Families is a series of free, drop-in family art workshops that take place on the last Sunday of every month in the Bow Arts Courtyard Room. These sessions are a wonderful opportunity for local families to get creative and try something new! Each session is led by a Bow Arts’ Artist and all materials are provided.

More about Madi Acharya-Baskerville

Madi Acharya-Baskerville is an Asian born diaspora artist, living and working in the UK. Broadly speaking, the themes explored in her work range from environmental concerns, migration and exile and gender issues. What unites them is the found element, matter that already exists around us, an enduring reflection of the human condition. Her practice involves the synthesis of unlikely elements which she sources from different locations, the coastline, woodlands and vintage markets.

Using objects, textiles, song, conversation and magazine cuttings which resonate with her on some level, she creates works which move fluidly between different media. Some of the materials have had a past life such as wooden panels previously part of furniture or embroidered textiles which have seen better occasions. Through joyous transformative processes these objects and materials are reborn as part of something new.
