Cora will kick off the workshop by giving a little bit of context to the themes of love and loss that ground her artistic practice and her personal connection to shrines and rituals of care. In an act of resistance to the notions of ‘high’ and ‘low’ cultural objects, we will each be making mini, portable shrines to pay homage to a personal object of yours, facilitating a recognition and honouring of the beauty and special-ness in personal, everyday objects which hold our treasured dreams, wishes, and memories.
Cora will invite attendees to respond to a series of writing and drawing prompts which will help us meaningfully engage with and get to know our personal objects, before we assemble our writings and drawings into their final shrine form. We will end the session by dreaming up new rituals of care and intention that we can use to activate and tend to our shrines going forward.
