Bow Skills Peer Crit: Articulating your work and worth as an artist with Art & People

Wednesday 23 February 2022 - 12:00 am

For our first Bow Skills session of the year, we’ve invited back art advisor, gallerist, curator, and founder of Art & People, Claudia Kennaugh, for a group crit centring on how to talk about your work and communicate your worth as an artist.
Claudia will work through different types of confidence, presentation, and networking, as well as covering the numerous contexts where an artist might have to talk about themselves and their work – including private views, open studios, gallery meetings, open calls, art parties, and collaborating with other artists.
The crit will be highly interactive, featuring a whole host of exploratory exercises, group discussions, role-play, and opportunities for individual curatorial feedback.
Artists are invited to bring along examples of their own work to the crit – either physically or digitally.
Places are capped at 10 max, so we encourage you to book your ticket asap!
Book your ticket here
Tickets £10/£7 (concession rate applies to students, over 65s, under 18s, Bow Arts artists, National Art Pass members, and key workers)
We will be focusing solely on verbal presentation and talking about yourself and your work in this session. However, there will be plenty of opportunities in future Bow Skills sessions to explore writing about yourself and your work.

About Art & People // Claudia Kennaugh
Art & People is a Bristol-based art advisory service offering guidance to artists and collectors.
Art & People founder, Claudia Kennaugh, has worked in the arts for over 15 years. First as a musician and performing artist, then gallery manager, art advisor and partner of the Hollywood Road Gallery, London. Claudia has nurtured the careers of many artists over the years, curated countless fairs & exhibitions and helped new and seasoned collectors to buy, frame and hang art in their homes. Since the launch of Art & People in 2019, Claudia has supported the professional development of artists all over the UK, as well as in Europe and North America, with one-to-one coaching, workshops and courses. Working with studio groups such as Bow Arts Trust and Wimbledon Art Studios is of particular interest to Claudia as it helps artists to develop together as communities. Her empathetic understanding of what it takes to live off your art and inside knowledge of the industry are a rare combination. From this foundation she is able to guide both artists and collectors, creating new connections and opportunities along the way. As a new mentor for Visual Artists Ireland and a panelist for the Jackson’s Painting Prize, 2022 looks to be an exciting year.
‘‘Artists are often on the back foot due to a lack of knowledge and support. I want to change that.’’ – Claudia Kennaugh
