Choice and Vibration is the culminating exhibition of the first art residency in the Raw Labs X Art Residency series, led by Vincenzo Muratore.
This immersive, multisensory art installation delves into the theme of choice as a profound and often subconscious process. It invites visitors to engage with an environment that symbolizes the paths and decisions shaping our lives.
The installation, crafted entirely from organic materials like paper and wood, creates a welcoming, layered space. Its rigid yet lightweight structure is formed by interconnected shapes, guiding visitors through symbolic pathways. Each movement and decision within the installation reflects a potential direction or choice, fostering a deeply personal and engaging experience.
The fragility of the materials highlights the precarious yet resilient nature of the subconscious. It speaks to how trauma can leave lasting marks on us—both subtle and profound. The unfinished, raw quality of the piece emphasizes its nature as a work in progress, mirroring the incomplete and evolving nature of the self. Fragmented mirrors incorporated into the work reflect scattered memories and shape fleeting moments, transforming the installation into an intimate internal landscape. Light, music, and scent complete this immersive journey, creating a powerful and mysterious exploration of memory, choices, and the inner landscape.
The concept stems from my research into the impact of choices—both conscious and unconscious—on identity and personal growth. Each decision represents a fork in the road, a new opening, or a closing. This installation embodies these possibilities, inviting visitors to physically engage with the concept of “choice” as they navigate the space.
The work also draws inspiration from the ephemeral and transformative nature of its materials. Paper and wood signify the fragility and beauty of human existence, while the interplay of light fosters an atmosphere of discovery and introspection.

The compositions soundscaping the installation will feature in a new collection of work called Peripheral Lands, which is planned for release in early 2025.
‘Peripheral Lands’ hones in on sound ecologies; zooming in on the mingling of static electricity, fish respiring and nesting birds heard from deep under a port, phone interference in concrete walls, bat calls through an echo locator and the easing pitter patter of a coastal storm. It traces the attack and decay of sonic landscapes and resonates these patterns through the bodies of instruments, both virtual and analog, shaping the composition’s textures, melodies and rhythms.
The record draws inspiration from Nan Shepherd’s ‘The Living Mountain’, which quotes W.H. Hudson: “To know fully even one field or one land is a lifetime’s experience. In the world of poetic experience, it is depth that counts, not width. A gap in a hedge, a smooth rock surfacing a narrow lane, a view of a woody meadow, the stream at the junction of four small fields—these are as much as a man can fully experience.”

More about the Raw Labs X Art Residency
The RAW Labs X Art Residency places a strong emphasis on creative growth and interdisciplinary dialogue, creating a unique space where art and community intersect. Supported by Notting Hill Genesis and Bow Arts, this initiative aims to foster interaction and encourage active participation in the cultural fabric of Royal Albert Wharf, enhancing both the artistic and communal experience.
Over six months, selected artists will undertake two to three-week residencies in an immersive environment to expand their practice, explore new concepts, exchange diverse perspectives, and experiment with innovative approaches.
