Exploring the River Lea by Bike & Gallery Tour

Sunday 23 April 2017 - 12:00 am

Join us for an exhibition gallery tour, followed by the chance to explore all the way up the River Lea by bike.
A chance to join a guided tour of the Raw Materials exhibition at the Nunnery Gallery, exploring the industrial heritage of the River Lea through the material wood. Explore a fascinating collection of objects, from furniture and film to the tools craftsmen used, together with newly commissioned sculpture from resident artist Silke Dettmers and especially crafted cabinets from Building Crafts College students. Then explore the waterway that inspired the exhibition, cycling up the River Lea as far as Tottenham Hale with the curator of the exhibition, pointing out the traces of our industrial past along the way. The cycle will approximately an hour and a half and we will finish by a café / pub, where you are welcome to join us for lunch, or please feel free to being a picnic / packed lunch.
We will be cycling on the River Lea’s towpath, which is flat and suitable for all bikes. We will wheel our bikes from the Gallery to the River (a 10 minute walk) and, for those unsure of cycling on the road, you can bring your bike to the Gallery on the District Line (Bow Road). We will finish our cycle at Tottenham, from which you can cycle back or take your bike on mainline trains to Stratford or Liverpool Street stations.
