Family Workshop with Colour of Water

Please join us for a fun and inspiring two-hour workshop to create elephant masks made from recycled and up-cycled plastic. Led by artist and Colour of Water founder Andrew Macgregor, we’ll be building elaborately creative masks out of discarded materials without the need of glue or sellotape.
Kids and parents will enjoy decorating their masks with a mixture of repurposed plastic and sustainable materials while learning about the history of plastics in east London. Early plastics were originally invented as a replacement for ivory, so our creating the faces of elephants is pertinent to our understanding of this remarkable story.  
At the end of the workshop, attendees are welcome to take masks home or leave them on public display in Bow Arts’ courtyard to reflect the power of our community’s fight against plastic waste. 
This workshop is free and open to all ages.
Raw Materials explores the forgotten industrial history of plastic in east London around the River Lea. The exhibition reveals the story of east London’s central role in the invention and early development of plastics, showcasing some of the very first plastic objects alongside newly commissioned artwork which tell the story of this material’s remarkable journey. The workshop is supported by The Colour Of Water, a creative collective and organisation aiming to inspire change in the our relationship with plastic. Their mission is to find creative solutions to global plastic pollution as well as inspire and empower wider communities to make a difference and learn how to up-cycle creatively with unwanted household plastic items. 
Access Information
Bow Arts Courtyard has step-free access throughout from street level, including to the accessible toilet and is service animal friendly. This venue does not have a hearing loop system.
Accessible parking is not available on-site but blue badge parking can be found 500m away on Fairfield Road.
