Frieze East End Night – Tina Keane Screening

For Frieze East End Night, the Nunnery Gallery will be screening Tina Keane’s seminal work Faded Wallpaper (1988, 20 mins) in partnership with England & Co Gallery.
Based loosely on the short story by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Faded Wallpaper is concerned with visual perception, madness and the search for identity. A woman, isolated within a room, becomes obsessed with the wallpaper surrounding her, seeing within its faded patterns strange images – at times pleasurable and seductive, at times threatening and dangerous.
Tina Keane is the lead artist for Visions in the Nunnery Programme 1, showing works Deviant Beauty (1996) and Couch (2003) alongside 14 other artists’ work. With works selected from the international open call for their exploration into themes poignant to Keane’s films, the programme centres around the body, feminism, obsession and the search for identity.
Programme 1 will be on show 6-8pm, with Faded Wallpaper screened at 7pm.
