“I was no one, nobody, from Nowheresville until I became a drag queen…that’s what made me in the world.”– Marsha P Johnson
Ferg Cooper, co-curator:
“In the current political climate, where the future looks increasingly dystopian, I’ve been trying to think of ways to not sit back and do nothing. LGBT+ history month reminded me that we have road maps for what we can do thanks to activists from the past.
This quote from Marsha P Johnson, one of the prominent figures in the Stonewall protests, is a reminder to not think of ourselves as ‘no-one’ with no power, but to lean even further into our identities to make ourselves visible in the world.“
For LGBT+ history month, the lounge project space supported by Bow Arts Trust brings together seven LGBT+ artists. The works are a celebration of identity and ability to fully express oneself creatively; each work another brick thrown against those seeking to push us towards Nowheresville.
