Nakshi Kantha is an ancient heritage technique and craft which originates in Bengal. These particular designs and patterns are rendered through a type of running stitch used to decorate hand quilted Kantha (blankets).
Under the tutelage of designer and crafts practitioner Shama Kun, you will learn about the cultural legacies and radical history of Nakshi Kantha, rooted in the experiences of rural Bangladeshi women, nature, storytelling, and women’s empowerment.
Taking cues from this rich embroidery tradition, you will playfully experiment with different kinds of stitch to bring to life your own personal Nakshi Kantha design that embodies the stories and messages that you want to tell.
No experience necessary – all materials will be provided!
Concessions rate applies to Bow Arts artists, students, over 65s, under 18s, National Art Pass members, and key workers
