Join us to celebrate the opening of the new Nunnery Café at Bow Arts’ main cultural hub on Bow Road.
To mark the launch of the Nunnery Café, we’re inviting our local neighbours to join us in celebrating this long-awaited space, with live entertainment and 20% off all food and drink. This is a great chance to sample the café’s acclaimed AllPress coffee, delicious vegetarian menu and locally-made cakes and pastries, as well meet the friendly new faces behind the counter.
Nestled in a wing of the original Nunnery building on a Victorian alleyway, the new café runs alongside and opens onto the Nunnery Gallery, offering a sustainable, affordable vegetarian menu for coffee, brunch, lunch and cake. The space is wheelchair-accessible and includes outdoor seating under the alleyway’s iconic light installation for al-fresco dining.
The interior design, lighting and furniture were recently remodelled by renowned designer Steuart Padwick, using bespoke colours inspired by the Nunnery’s original floor tiles. Surrounded by Bow Arts studios, the café walls feature changing exhibitions of artwork by Bow Arts artists, available to buy on the Own Art scheme.
The launch also coincides with the opening weekend of Raw Materials: Plastics, the Nunnery Gallery’s new exhibition exploring the little-known history of plastics in east London.
At the heart of Bow’s community, the café will cater all Nunnery Gallery events as well as offering late openings and supper clubs. A space for those living around it, new ideas are always welcome – bring them along with yourselves to give our new café a proper launch!
