Nunnery Café Exhibition | Amy Browne

This exhibition is a collection of works by artist and illustrator Amy Browne. Her idiosyncratic style takes the everyday world as inspiration, making pieces that are sometimes humorous and sometimes unsettling, from the mundane and ‘normal’ parts of life.
Since completing her masters degree in Illustration at Camberwell in 2019 she has developed her distinctive and playful style, previously only visible on the occasional friend’s album cover, into a complex world of personified plants, animals, feelings and thoughts.
She works across several mediums, creating large visually complex paintings in gouache and fineliner, in contrast to the hazy lines of her monoprints. She has worked extensively with riso printing, making prints and zines in a variety of styles, and continues to experiment with the medium. She also makes sculptures of her characters, and though they started out as an accompaniment to her image-making these are amongst her most popular works and this is the first exhibition that will feature them.

Amy now lives in Catford and has a studio in Bow Arts’ Catford Dek, and leads the occasional riso print workshop at Artbox London where she works as a technician and product designer.
This is the fourth exhibition in a new series of shows in the Nunnery Cafe which showcase affordable works of art from Bow Arts artists. All works are for sale and works from £100-2,500 are available to buy using the Own Art scheme, allowing buyers to spread the cost of artwork over 10 monthly instalments, with the benefit of an interest-free loan.
