Expressions of Fluidity: Story-tale Map brings together sculpture, film and textile to explore the circulation of materials and embodied techniques through migration, labour and systems of exchange. Developed by Rum Factory artist Lucía Scarselletta in response to the open call Expressions of Fluidity and Wapping’s layered industrial and maritime histories shaped by its relationship with the the River Thames, the show considers how objects can appear fixed while carrying traces of movement, transformation and connection.
Through a dialogue between materials and migration, Scarselletta invites audiences to consider the histories held within objects, places and processes, while creating an environment for reflection on Wapping’s continuing relationship with movement, exchange and making.
The installation expands the sculptural and spatial research initiated in Alhaja, bringing together Cincha Alhaja, Lazo (film), and a new floor-based textile work. A newly constructed suspended support structure for Cincha Alhaja will allow the sculpture to inhabit the space immersively, encouraging audiences to move through and around it while considering how these elements might be reoriented towards new forms of relation and spatial encounter.
Wapping provides an important context for this work. Its relationship to the River Thames, maritime infrastructure, trade and labour resonates with Scarselletta’s interest in circulation and cultural transmission. New footage filmed in Wapping for Lazo further embeds the exhibition within the locality, connecting the work’s existing material language to the area’s industrial landscape.

More about Lucía Scarselletta
Lucía Scarselletta is an Argentinian multidisciplinary artist based in London. Her practice investigates textile techniques as material technologies shaped by migration and industrial infrastructures. Working across sculpture, installation, writing and film, she repurposes discarded materials, including leather garments and industrial textiles, to examine how craft practices carry layered histories of cultural transmission and labour. She is currently undertaking her second consecutive year of the Conditions Online Programme. Recent projects include her solo exhibition Alhaja at Outhouse, a commissioned exhibition with Turf Projects, and the forthcoming presentation of Lazo at Contextile, Contemporary Textile Art Biennial.
