This residency is an opportunity for Hernan to expand the boundaries of his practice by experimenting with larger-scale projects, exploring new techniques, and furthering his research into the relationship between fashion and sustainability.
A key element of his residency is community engagement—bringing the space to life. Hernan plans to share insights into his everyday studio practice, highlighting the dedication and challenges behind handmade shoe production. Additionally, he will host a workshop for adults, allowing participants to experiment with leather crafting while gaining a deeper appreciation for the artistry and labor involved in creating sustainable, timeless pieces. The residency will conclude with an exhibition showcasing both Hernan’s work and the creations made during the workshop.

In this playful session, Hernan will introduce different techniques for creating shoe accessories, embellishing footwear with discarded materials, or even making a shoe mock-up using recycled waste. The workshop will begin with a look at inspiring shoe artwork to spark ideas, followed by hands-on experimentation with construction methods.
Participants are encouraged to bring a pair of shoes they’d like to modify or create accessories for. Some materials will be provided, but attendees are welcome to bring any spare materials they have at home, such as leather, fabric, trimmings, or embellishments. Please note that, for health and safety reasons, this workshop is intended for adults only.
To take part, please contact Hernan directly via Instagram @hernanguardamagna or email guardamagnahernan@gmail.com. Spaces are limited.
Join us for an evening of creativity, conversation, and celebration! The event will showcase the work created during my residency, as well as the participants’ workshop projects. Expect good music, great company, and a relaxed atmosphere. Workshop participants will also be invited to stay for the evening event to showcase their creations. More activities may be announced throughout the residency!
