Visions in the Nunnery 2018 | P2 Melanie Manchot

Tuesday 30 October 2018 - 12:00 am

Programme 2 premieres a new work from lead artist Melanie Manchot, Out of Bounds (C) (2018), which continues Manchot’s ongoing exploration of the socio-economic and ecological microclimate of a Swiss mountain and its alpine community. The themes of Manchot’s research-driven practice – identity, human relationships, landscape and the environment – echo through the programme, with works that also reflect her photography-led methods of presentation, including light / dark, choreography and drawing. Through film and installation, programme 2 will take audiences on a journey – to other worlds, new ways of seeing and explorations of human impact on the environment.
Visions in the Nunnery is the Nunnery Gallery’s renowned showcase of recent moving image and performance. Three programmes will present an international overview of some of the most exciting and boundary-pushing digital art, showing over 60 international artists selected from over 1,000 submissions.
Manchot is London-based and works with photography and film/video as a performative and participatory practice. Her projects respond to specific sites and public spaces or particular communities to explore individual and collective identities. Out of Bounds (C) forms part of an on-going engagement with one particular alpine community and their mountain economy. For the past nine years and indefinitely into the future, the work maps lines of enquiry all bounded by this one village. It addresses structures of maintenance, support and the socio-political urgencies of precarious environments in our care. Manchot has exhibited widely internationally and her participation in Visions coincides with two solo exhibitions at Parafin London (26 Sep – 17 Nov) and MAC VAL – Musée d’Art contemporain du Val-de-Marne (19 Oct – 28 Feb ’19).
