Visions in the Nunnery | P2 Private View

Thursday 1 November 2018 - 12:00 am

Visions in the Nunnery is the Nunnery Gallery’s renowned showcase of international moving image and performance. Join us for the launch of Programme 2 which is led by Melanie Manchot, and features a live performance Home is Now (2017) by Hayley Harrison.
Programme 2 premieres a new work from Manchot, Out of Bounds (C) (2018), which continues her ongoing exploration of the socio-economic and ecological microclimate of a Swiss mountain and its alpine community. The themes of Manchot’s research-driven practice – identity, human relationships, landscape, and the environment – echo through the programme, with works that also reflect her photography-led methods of presentation, including light / dark, choreography and drawing.
The concerns of Harrison’s performance Home is Now are close to Manchot’s investigation, with a narrative that navigates home, as a shelter and a community, alongside the refuge of nature and a worldwide anxiety around climate change. Between these spoken words, Harrison sculpts crisp packets into organic forms, filling them with compost and seeds, before exploding them in a futile act of propagation.
