The East London Art Prize is all about fostering new connections and opportunities. As well as the biennial Events Programme with our ten partners, a variety of new collaborations have grown out of the Prize.

ELAP x Backyard Biennial 2026
ELAP is delighted to be a partner for the inaugural Backyard Biennial: East, a free, 8-week festival in collaboration with Whitechapel Gallery and 40+ local partners across East London (15 July – 6 September 2026).
Laisul Hoque
‘An Ode to All the Flavours’
15 July – 6 Sept, Whitechapel Gallery
As part of the ‘East of the Aldgate Pump’ exhibition, Laisul is presenting ‘An Ode to All the Flavours’ (2024), an expanded storytelling and interactive installation inspired by his earliest memory of his father sharing his favourite childhood snack.
This is the work that won Laisul the East London Art Prize in 2025.

‘The Ground Beneath Me’
15 July – 6 Sept, Whitechapel Gallery
As part of ‘Tufan’ curated by Otij-jo Collective, Laisul is exhibiting his work ‘The Ground Beneath Me’ (2026). This work was produced for his ELAP Winner’s exhibition in the Nunnery Gallery earlier this year.

ELAP x Laisul Hoque x Grand Union
As part of the East London Art Prize Touring Programme, Bow Arts brokered an exhibition for Laisul Hoque at Grand Union, Birmingham.
‘Learning to Drive in Birmingham’ by Laisul Hoque
4 July – 3 October, Grand Union
In ‘Learning to Drive in Birmingham’ Laisul, a Bangladeshi immigrant now living in the UK, attempts to navigate Birmingham through driving lessons, conversations in cars, and phone calls from home.
Join for the Digbeth First Friday on 7 August from 5pm when the exhibition will be open late.

Performance: Sand Suit 4.0

Lydia Newman presents Sand Suit 4.0 (2026), the fourth iteration of an ongoing live participatory performance work with wearable sculpture, movement and spoken text.

Kuda Mushangi
Walk: Exploring art & architecture at Whitechapel
Sat 15 Aug, 11am-1pm, Whitechapel Gallery
Kuda Mushangi will lead a walking tour of the Whitechapel area to explore how art has been integrated and woven into the history and architecture of Whitechapel and East London. A practicing architect and an award-winning artist, Kuda brings a wealth of knowledge as well as firsthand experience of living in the vicinity. Key sites will include House of Annetta, Whitechapel Gallery and Arnold Circus.
