Read about the artists shortlisted for the 2027 prize and the East London Art Prize shortlist exhibition.
The 2027 East London Art Prize was selected by Marine Tanguy (Founder MTArt Agency), Alex Needham (Arts Editor, The Guardian), Brendan Cormier (Chief Curator, V&A East) and Michelle Williams Gamaker (Artist).
Chosen from just under 600 submissions by artists and collectives living or working within east London boroughs, the 12 artists will make up the 2027 East London Art Prize cohort.
The shortlisted artists are: Aman Aheer and Puer Deorum, Maurizio Anzeri, Shauna Cribbin, JMES, Ziyue Huang, Elliott Pittam, Shamica Ruddock, Maxima Smith, Kun Song, Sabrina Tirvengadum, Josie Rae Turnbull and Chanel Vegas
All 12 artists will take part in the 2027 Shortlist Exhibition, showing at the Nunnery Gallery from March-May 2027. At the opening night an Exhibition Prize (£15,000 and an exhibition at the Nunnery Gallery) and a Residency Prize (a year’s free studio space at Bow Arts) will be awarded. The Prize is proudly sponsored by Minerva.

As part of their shortlist award, all 12 artists will be paired with mentors under the East London Art Prize mentoring scheme, supporting their career development. The shortlist will benefit from sessions with selected chosen mentors, including professional artists, academics, curators, writers, and gallerists.

All of the 2027 cohort will go on to take part in the East London Art Prize programme, including talks and workshops with the 10 Prize partners British Council, Dulux, East Bank, The Line, London College of Fashion UAL, London Legacy Development Corporation, Own Art, UCL East, V&A East and Whitechapel Gallery.
