Year 2 pupils from Willow Bank Primary enjoyed a visit to Jamie Zubairi at his artist studio at Lakeside Centre.
Pupils from Willow Bank Primary embarked on a trip to the Lakeside Centre in their local area of Thamesmead, where artist Jamie Zubairi holds a Bow Arts studio. The group had the exciting opportunity to hear about what an artist studio is, how a studio is used, and the importance of having a studio to a practicing artist.
The children had the opportunity to be curious and learn about what being an artist can be like by directly asking questions to Jamie, who shed light on his career and guided the young artists through techniques he uses in his art making.
The group then took turns to participate in a silhouette drawing workshop in the activity room at the Lakeside Centre, and collaboratively created a large colourful artwork to decorate the wall of the space.
The same abstract drawing techniques were later used to record spring plants the children discovered, while exploring the garden outside the studio building.
If you’re interested in organising an artist studio visit for a group of students from your school – now is a great time to be in touch! We are launching a brand-new studio resource activity booklet for primary settings, designed by illustrator Mark Oliver.
