Launching the Nunnery Gallery programme, Madge Gill’s first major retrospective will be the focus for three ten-week exhibitions running until early 2013.

The exhibition displays different positions and interpretations of four international artists (Germany, Austria, UK) exploring current concepts of observation.

The subject of the exhibition was the ‘plurality’ of the video image. The work demonstrated the diversity of approach by artists working with electronic and digital moving imagery .

Visions in The Nunnery 2002 was the 5th annual open submission event to be hosted by the Nunnery Gallery for artists working in film, video, installation and new media.

Visions in the Nunnery 2006 is the sixth annual open submission event for artists working in digital media. The selection of work reflects developments in emerging and current contemporary arts practice.

This exciting annual exhibition provided a rare opportunity to share some of the exceptional artwork produced by local young people working with 17 professional artists and performers. This exhibition was dedicated to the work of 15 local schools and was supported through the long standing partnership between Bow Arts Trust and St Paul’s Way Community School in Bow.

This year’s annual Bow Arts Trust exhibition has been selected by curator and art writer Andrew Hunt. The show, entitled ‘The Stars Down to Earth’, features the work of seventeen artists picked from amongst over ninety members of the Bow Arts Trust.

The assemblage of models, texts, video and photographic imagery in this exhibition shows a pre-occupation with the acts of cutting, rejoining, inverting and reflecting, revealing a ‘potential space’ – perhaps within the ‘joins’ themselves.

DOUBLEUSE brings together contemporary practitioners who continue to draw on painting as a useful and functioning context, despite and because of its inherited difficulties. The linguistic term ‘double use’ offers an analogy for painting that attempts to hold mutually contradictory positions.
