Bow Skills: Understanding Schools

This session offers an introduction to the national curriculum, with information on key stages and year groups, and school performance measures. You will also learn about the Arts and Design programme of study, and the different opportunities for artists to work with schools.

Designed to act as an introduction for beginners and a refresher for more experienced practitioners alike, the sessions will include practical exercises and networking opportunities with peers, providing participants with an array of tools and resources that can be used in the classroom in primary and secondary school, and beyond. 

Led by:

Jenny Poynter is Curriculum Leader for Art at Sarah Bonnell School in Stratford. She has been an Art Teacher and then Curriculum Leader for Art in London for a total of 12 years. Jenny is particularly interested in the role of the artist teacher and completed an MA Artist Teachers and Contemporary Practices at Goldsmiths College in 2011. She is a works in interdisciplinary manner, combining materials such as paint, stitch and photomontage within her Art work. Jenny has been involved in collaborative projects such as Sketchbook Circle with other Art teachers around the UK, and recently set up a Sketchbook Circle for staff within her school, to promote creativity as a tool for wellbeing.
