Bow Skills talk: money matters – building your financial toolkit as an artist with Opus Gold (session 2)

Get to grips with the fundamentals of good financial planning that artists need to know with Opus Gold as they dive into all things taxes, savings, pensions, managing debt, and protecting your income.
This is the second out of two sessions running throughout the day – the first session will take place earlier on in the day from 3-5pm.
Knowing where to start when it comes to what good financial planning as an artist looks like and what measures you need to put in place can seem really daunting. In this broad-ranging talk, Simon Hasler from Opus Gold will unpack the fundamentals of financial planning for the future to demystify and equip artists, makers, and creatives with the tools you need to gain financial freedom and confidence with money.
Simon will unpack a number of topics connecting to financial literacy, including taxes, managing debt and building your cash reserve as a person with variable income, savings and ISAs, state pensions and ethical pensions, as well as income protections if you are off work for a sustained period of time.
The session will end with a Q&A where you can put all your burning questions to Simon and dig into specific questions you have relating to your own relationship with finances and money.
In this talk, you will:
- Learn about the importance of good financial planning for the future and what measures to put in place to start to work towards this as an artist
- Gain fundamental knowledge about the core areas of good financial planning, namely taxes, savings, pensions, income protections, and managing debt.
- Start to build greater confidence when dealing with money and finances
This event will take place in the courtyard room at Bow Arts Trust, 181 Bow Road, E3 2SJ and will run twice during the day – the first session will run from 3-5pm.

More about Simon Hasler & Opus Gold
Simon Hasler is a Chattered Independent Financial Adviser (IFA) who owns Opus Gold Financial Consultants. Having worked in the finance industry since 1989 he has a vast amount of experience in providing financial advice. Specifically for our finance session, Simon has run similar seminars for the workforce of various UK companies, including the staff of the County Football Associations throughout the UK.
Simon is also the producer of the film Vindication Swim which enjoys a UK theatrical release in March this year.
About Bow Skills
Bow Arts seeks to support creative professionals at all stages of their careers. In 2015 Bow Arts launched Bow Skills in response to an artist survey which showed over 90% of practicing artists find it useful to receive further support outside formal education.
Bow Skills is a dynamic and relevant programme of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) which is informed by an artist steering group and open to all creative practitioners across London. The programme of talks, panel discussions, new skills labs and peer crits is open to all, with concession rates available to students, over 65s, under 18s, Bow Arts artists and key workers.

The Bow Arts Trust office has step-free access throughout from street level, including to the accessible toilet, and is service animal friendly. This venue does not have a hearing loop system. Accessible parking is not available on-site but blue badge parking can be found 500m away on Fairfield Road.
