Back to the drawing board: Redefining our relationship with Drawing (Bow Arts CPD for Teachers) (Part 2 of 2)

Tuesday 15th October 2024 , 6:00pm to 7:30pm

£8

6-7.30pm (8th Floor, 125 Shaftesbury Avenue, WC2H 8AD)

Join artist and educator Jasmin Bhanji for a transformative two-part workshop that explores the power of drawing as a cross-curricular learning tool, and opportunity for bringing joy into learning.

“Nothing has made me rethink my pedagogy as much as this has.” – Participant

Is drawing just for art lessons? We don’t think so. In this workshop participants will:

  • Challenge the idea that drawing is just about replicating an image
  • Explore techniques for stimulating a variety of pupil responses as opposed to a class-full of similar, formulaic imitations
  • Shift the focus from teacher modelling to a culture of positive reinforcement – participants will learn how to praise drawing efforts to support desired learning outcomes
  • Gain confidence by removing the fear from the teaching of drawing and creating a more encouraging learning environment
  • Investigate what it means to collectively discover as a community of learners, using opportunities to acquire knowledge and skills from one another.

While the workshops will provide a foundation in drawing skills and techniques for the classroom, the heart of the content lies in attitudinal shift and powerful pedagogy.

Please note, this is a two-part series of workshops. Attending both is highly recommended but not essential, as each will make sense on its own.

These Bow Arts practical art CPD workshops for teachers aim to equip participants with skills that can be applied immediately in the classroom, while aiming to reshape attitudes to what it means to work with art materials sustainably.

The techniques explored in each workshop aim to make use of inexpensive, easy-to-access art materials, and can be applied to primary and secondary school level.

Open to all artistic backgrounds; all materials provided.
