Bow Families: making miniature ornaments with oven-bake clay for a ‘tea party theatre’ with Ayesha Sureya

Sunday 29th March 2026 , 11:00am to 1:00pm

Artist and designer Ayesha Sureya invites children and families to a playful ‘tea party theatre’, making our favourite food objects from colourful oven-bake clay pieces. Together we will sculpt tiny dishes inspired by meals that mean something to us. Take home your clay creations to oven-bake and keep as memorabilia. Open to children and families of all ages – all materials provided!

Inspired by Laisul Hoque’s East London Art Prize shortlist work, An Ode to All the Flavours (2024), an installation resembling a ‘Bangladeshi sweet shop’ loaded with his father’s favourite childhood snack, this hands-on family workshop invites you to recreate your most loved foods in miniature form using colourful oven-bake (Fimo) clay. Together, we’ll sculpt tiny dishes inspired by meals that mean something to us, foods we love to taste, remember, or simply admire.

As we explore food-making as a ritual and a form of storytelling, children and families will take part in a playful ‘tea party theatre’, sharing anecdotes and memories connected to favourite meals. You will join a sensory and nostalgic session that encourages children to have fun making inventive shapes and to reflect on how food connects us. Your clay creations can be taken home and baked to harden, becoming lasting keepsakes of shared time and imagination.

In this workshop, children will learn a wide range of skills in rolling, sculpting and sharing about their clay pieces. Once their favourite foods have been oven-baked at home, the artist suggests painting and displaying for further creative engagement.

This event is an inclusive, friendly environment which is accessible to all abilities and age groups.
