Taking the lead from London Festival of Architecture’s theme Boundaries – artists, designers and makers from our Royal Albert Wharf studios were invited to submit a piece of work that best represents the theme.
Curated by empathy artist and designer Enni-Kukka Tuomala, 14 artworks from Bow Arts artists have been selected and will be showcased throughout our iconic RAW Labs. Featuring photography, sculpture, installation and maps – each one of the selected artists have contributed to the creative and ever-shifting community that Royal Albert Wharf has come and continue to build towards a wonderful future in art, culture and creativity.
The works on display demonstrate the variety of artist practices and skill housed within these studios. Established in 2017, RAW Studios is home to 40 talented creative businesses from fashion designers to sculptors. Sharing their work and interpretations of boundaries for LFA 2019. There is no better way to commemorate this community than through an exhibition that forges a space in between, over and around the boundaries we set up to feel safe, the boundaries we overcome to grow, and the boundaries we create to mark new beginnings here at Royal Albert Wharf.
Bringing artists, community organisers and members of the public together in the edge of east London means defining, creating and overcoming boundaries between areas and people. Surrounded by artists’ studios, residential communities and Docklands, RAW Labs is a meeting place. It enables people to come together and form creative communities that both bring life to an area and engage with already present and vibrant neighbourhoods.
Boundaries runs from 21-30 June 2019.
