Diaspora Delights is a London-found fusion. A collaboration between Araba Mercer Banson and (h)OURS, this supper club explores food that transcends the continental boundaries of the Caribbean and Ghana.
With a Black British surrealist (Afrosurrealist) menu that takes inspiration from the Nunnery Gallery exhibition Lucy Orta, Traces: Stories of Migration, in which local residents of Newham and Tower Hamlets represent their migration journeys in textile form, the Diaspora Delights supper club daringly use flavour to suggest the depth of cultural conversation in tasteful permutations. The history of cultural foods between Ghana and the Caribbean has come full circle; migration to London has caused cultural overlaps as well as a diaspora population that has been reunited through food.
This supper club is a revolutionary take on migration to London. Diaspora Delights creates an understanding of a reality far more remarkable than the surface of society suggests by combining the positive aspects of various black cultures.
On the day there will be a music playlist, a storytelling session, and conversation prompts for an inspiring evening.
Soft drinks and alcoholic beverages including a range of cocktails will be served by the Nunnery Cafe on the night.
